SEMI: The semIConductor industry will start the construction projects of 18 new wafer fabs this year.

According to the latest report released by SEMI, the semiconductor industry is expected to launch the construction projects of 18 new wafer fabs in 2025, and most of these projects are predicted to start operation from 2026 to 2027. SEMI also estimates that the semiconductor production capacity will be further accelerated. By 2025, the total monthly output of wafers will reach 33.6 million wafers (wpm). The expansion of the semiconductor industry is mainly due to the promoting role played by the cutting-edge logic technologies in high-peRFormance computing (HPC) applications, and it is also inseparable from the increasingly widespread popularization and application of generative AI in edge devices.
